Supplier Code of Conduct                                                                                                                

This Supplier Code of Conduct is part of the responsible operations of Suomen Lauttaliikenne Group (Finferries) and the implementation of the company’s values ​​– safety, service-mindedness, environmental friendliness and a sense of community. “Suppliers” refers to all Finferries’ service or goods suppliers, subcontractors and other contractual partners.

Finferries wants to ensure responsibility throughout its value chain and expects all its suppliers to follow these guidelines. The supplier must ensure that its own subcontractors and other suppliers involved in the supply chain comply with this Code of Conduct when they are involved in the supply chain for delivering goods or services to Suomen Lauttaliikenne.

The code is based on the UN’s, ILO’s and OECD’s guiding principles for businesses. 

Compliance with laws and regulations

Finferries’ suppliers must comply with local legislation and regulatory requirements in all their business operations. 

Finferries expects that the supplier is not subject to sanctions imposed by the EU or UN and that the supplier complies with sanctions regulations. The supplier must immediately notify Finferries if it is subject to a sanctions-related investigation.

Finferries expects its suppliers to strictly comply with competition legislation. The supplier must not engage in discussions or enter into agreements with its competitors that would restrict competition. 

Avoiding conflicts of interest is important in terms of business ethics and trust. A conflict of interest refers to a conflict between an individual’s personal interest and the interest of the company. The suppliers must conduct business and make business-related decisions objectively and honestly without pursuing personal interest or gain. Business partners are obligated to report any possible affiliations and conflicts of interest to Finferries. 

Bribery, corruption, improper payments and other financial abuses are prohibited in all business transactions. 

Suppliers may offer and Finferries’ personnel may only accept customary and reasonable gifts, benefits or hospitality.

Human and labour rights

Finferries’ suppliers must respect internationally recognised human rights. 

The use of forced or child labour, human trafficking, or comparable practices such as recruitment fees or the confiscation of personal documents are unacceptable in the supplier’s own business or that of the supplier’s subcontractors. 

Every employee has the right to a healthy and safe working environment. The supplier must ensure the prevention of occupational accidents, the availability and use of appropriate protective equipment, and the necessary training of personnel. 

In accordance with Finferries’ substance abuse policy and to ensure safety, the supplier’s employees must fully refrain from substance use at work. The blood alcohol limit is 0 ‰. Finferries’ representatives have the right to intervene in cases where the blood alcohol limit is exceeded and to prevent people working under the influence of alcohol on ferries and in Finferries’ premises.

The supplier’s personnel must be able to verify their identity with an ID card or other identification when working on a Finferries vessel or on Finferries’ premises.

The supplier’s employees have the right to freedom of speech and opinion. They must have the right to organise and belong or not to belong to a trade union. The supplier must commit to following the labour legislation and collective agreements of the country in which it is located.

The supplier must commit to the equal treatment of personnel and the promotion of equality. Any form of harassment and discrimination based on gender, racial or ethnic origin, nationality, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation is prohibited. 

Responsibility for the environment

Environmental friendliness is one of Finferries’ values, and suppliers must comply with environmental legislation, environmental permit conditions and other regulations concerning the environment and the protection thereof. 

The suppliers must endeavour to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and other negative environmental impacts caused by their operations and to prevent environmental damage. Particular attention must be paid to the sensitive archipelago region. The ferry berths and vessels must be kept clean and tidy. The supplier must strive to promote reuse and recycling.

Cybersecurity

Finferries has a legal obligation to identify, assess and manage risks to the security of communication networks and information systems used in its operations or service provision. The supplier must, for its part, manage these cybersecurity risks and strive to prevent or minimise the impact of incidents on Finferries’ operations, business continuity, service recipients and other services.

Confidentiality and reporting

Suppliers must comply with data protection laws and regulations. They must ensure that confidential information related to the business relationship between Finferries and the supplier does not end up with a third party.

The supplier must notify Finferries without delay of any violation or suspected violation of this code. Any violations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Actions that violate this code may have an impact on the supplier’s and Finferries’ cooperation and whether it continues. 

The supplier must allow the monitoring of compliance with this code. Finferries has the right to receive documents and other information that relates to compliance with this code from the supplier. Finferries has the right to carry out or commission information security, environmental and other audits as necessary.
