The reconstruction and improvement project of the ferry sites at Kortesalmi ferry site will begin in Vaajasalo, Kuopio.
The Economic Development Centre in Southwest Finland will carry out modification and improvement works on the ferry sites at Kortesalmi ferry site, located on Vaajasalo Road in Kuopio. Construction work will take place at the ferry site between June and November 2026. The project includes demolishing the existing abutments at the ferry sites and replacing them with new ones. These modifications prepare ferry operations for an upcoming 20-year service contract.
The construction work is not expected to affect ferry operations; however, short-term traffic disruptions and interruptions may occur. During the works, Fintraffic Oy’s Traffic Management Centre will provide 24/7 updates on any traffic disruptions. As temporary traffic arrangements will be required at the ferry sites during the works, road users are advised to exercise caution, remain alert, and follow traffic control instructions. The construction works related to the project will be carried out between 22 June and 30 November 2026.
Traffic disruption information:
Fintraffic Oy’s Traffic Management Centre will provide information on any disruptions to road and ferry traffic during the works.
The main contractor for the project is Oteran Oy.
